Rehearsal + Behind the Scenes
This was an interesting experience for me. Our days didn't really start until about 5:30pm each day, for rehearsals. We stayed in Nashville, about a hour away from the Bonnaroo Festival grounds, so I couldn't venture out to see the festival performances. I woke up each morning, with nothing to do but explore the area, and discover local cuisine. When 5:30pm rolled around, we all met in the lobby to head over to the rehearsal space.
We arrived, and the jam session began. There were 2 jam sessions taking place simultaneously, directly across the hall from each other. In one, which is where we were, was Derek Trucks, Taj Mahal, and Chaka Khan. It had a really bluesy kind of vibe. 10 feet away, across the hall, is where Skrillex, Damian Marley, and some others were rehearsing. Skrillex's rehearsal turned into a party around 11pm one night. ***tips Jameson bottle into red cup.

After the second rehearsal, I told Chaka Khan that I would send her some of the behind the scenes images, she smiled, and hugged me really tight - in real life. I honestly didn't wash that shirt yet.
So, apparently, Nashville, TN is known for "Hot Chicken", which is right up my alley, being the chicken wing lover that I am. This really doesn't have much to do with anything, but I'll always remember my visits to Hattie B's Hot Chicken. It was about a block away from our hotel, and I went at least 3 times.
If you're not familiar with the Bonnaroo Festival, it's a music festival with events and performances almost around the clock for 4 consecutive days. It just so happened that Kanye West was set to perform about 2 hours prior to Anthony's cameo at the SuperJam. Yeah! I was determined to see Kanye's performance, at least a portion of it.
In order to gain access to the stage where Kanye was performing, I had to pretend like I was Anthony Hamilton's bodyguard. I stood there, with my chest poked out, shoulders up, and I kept clinching my fists. That's something I had seen a 6' 10" tall bodyguard do before. I figured, if it intimidated the hell out of me, it might intimidate someone else. Well, it worked. Once I finally got inside the gated area, I whipped out my Canon 5D Mark II and went to work. The angle of view wasn't the best, but I couldn't really complain.
I posted about the experience on my Instagram, and Anthony commented, "PS. I didn't feel safe either. Lol."
The Derek Trucks SuperJam, which featured Anthony Hamilton, had a 12:00am set time. By this time, I was exhausted, and my back was killing me, from carrying my camera bag. The jam session was great, and once it ended, Anthony and I went back into the pit area to watch Chance the Rapper perform. What a weekend.
